Pachystegia insignis - Marlborough Rock Daisy
DESCRIPTION & SIZE GUIDE
A distinctive, low-growing shrub, Marlborough Rock Daisy reaches 1 metre tall and wide. Grey-green leathery leaves have a silvery underside, producing daisy-like white flowers with yellow centres in summer. Space 80 - 100 cm apart for groupings or as individual specimens. Its compact, sculptural form makes it ideal for rock gardens, coastal sites, and naturalistic native landscapes.
ECOLOGICAL BENEFIT
Provides nectar for native insects, while its structure supports invertebrate habitat. Contributes to the restoration of dry, rocky ecosystems and promotes awareness of threatened Marlborough native flora. By planting this species, gardeners support biodiversity and ecological connectivity.
GROWING CONDITIONS & CARE
Thrives in full sun with sharply drained soils. Highly tolerant of coastal exposure, drought, and frost, but sensitive to heavy or wet soils. Minimal maintenance is needed; occasional trimming ensures neat appearance. Ideal for rockeries, coastal gardens, and low-maintenance landscapes.
