Corokia virgata ‘Geenty’s Green’
DESCRIPTION & SIZE GUIDE
Corokia virgata ‘Geenty’s Green’ is a dense, upright shrub growing 2 - 3 metres tall with small green leaves and a compact, bushy form. It produces small yellow star-shaped flowers in spring, followed by red berries that attract birds. Ideal for hedging, screening, or as a specimen shrub, plant 70 - 100 cm apart for hedges or more widely for individual planting. Its fine-textured foliage provides year-round structure and a tidy, sculptural appearance.
ECOLOGICAL BENEFIT
Flowers provide nectar for insects, while berries feed native birds such as kererū and silvereyes. Its dense form offers shelter for small birds and invertebrates, contributing to garden biodiversity. Planting Corokia virgata enhances ecosystem connectivity and provides habitat corridors in urban and rural landscapes, combining ornamental and ecological value.
GROWING CONDITIONS & CARE
Grows best in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soils. Tolerates wind, drought, and coastal conditions, making it ideal for exposed sites. Responds well to pruning to maintain shape and density. Once established, it is extremely low-maintenance, durable, and highly resilient, making it suitable for native hedges, screens, and feature plantings.
