Coprosma acerosa ‘Red Rocks’
DESCRIPTION & SIZE GUIDE
A prostrate, mat-forming shrub, Coprosma acerosa ‘Red Rocks’ grows 20 - 30 cm tall and spreads up to 2 metres wide. Its bronze-red foliage provides striking colour in coastal gardens, rockeries, and erosion-control plantings. Small berries add seasonal interest, and its low-growing habit is ideal for groundcover or stabilising slopes. Space 40 - 50 cm apart for coverage.
ECOLOGICAL BENEFIT
Provides shelter for invertebrates and lizards, while berries feed native birds. Its dense growth stabilises soils in exposed or sandy coastal environments. Planting this species contributes to local biodiversity, reduces weed invasion, and restores natural coastal vegetation patterns in gardens and restoration sites.
GROWING CONDITIONS & CARE
Prefers full sun with free-draining sandy or stony soils. Extremely tolerant of drought, wind, and coastal conditions. Requires minimal maintenance once established, making it ideal for low-maintenance, ecological, and visually striking coastal gardens.
