Coprosma acerosa ‘Hawera’
DESCRIPTION & SIZE GUIDE
Coprosma acerosa ‘Hawera’ is a prostrate, mat-forming groundcover growing 20 - 30 cm tall and spreading up to 2 metres wide. Its bronze-green foliage creates dense coverage, making it ideal for stabilising slopes, coastal gardens, and rockeries. Space 40 - 50 cm apart for full coverage or massed effect. Its low-growing habit makes it perfect for erosion control and ground-level planting accents.
ECOLOGICAL BENEFIT
Provides shelter for invertebrates and lizards, while its small berries feed native birds. Dense mats stabilise sandy or exposed soils, reducing erosion and supporting local biodiversity. By choosing this species, gardeners create functional, wildlife-friendly groundcover in urban, coastal, or restoration plantings.
GROWING CONDITIONS & CARE
Thrives in full sun with free-draining sandy or stony soils. Highly tolerant of coastal exposure, drought, and wind. Minimal maintenance once established; occasional trimming ensures tidy growth. Well-suited to coastal gardens, banks, rockeries, and low-maintenance urban landscapes.
